Last week I touched on several strategies that you should do to increase your online network and thus increase your visibility and chance of getting hired. Linkedin, in my opinion, is the best business networking too for candidates and recruiters. When I was recruiting full time, I used Linkedin religiously and it gave me a huge advantage. It now seems that every recruiter is using it and if they are not they are at a severe disadvantage.
Linked in is HUGE! Over 2 million people join each month and if your profile is not there, you are missing your chance to get contacted by recruiters who want to place you in better jobs. Even if you are Linkedin, I am willing to bet that you are not maximizing this resource. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of Linkedin.
- Fill out the profile completely, list every single job and fill out the job description field. Recruiters use key words to search and you want to make sure you are pulling up in the results. Fill out the specialties section (again keywords)
- Edit the sub header. This is effective so that when when recruiters are viewing the results your profile grabs their attention. Instead of a bland job title, you can create a catchy summary statement.
- Build your network, actively seek others to link to you. The more connections you have the more useful this tool is. Join groups. I belong to 12, in fact I created one as well. Make your profile public!! You want to get noticed, right?
These tips will definitely increase your exposure, make these changes ASAP, recruiters may be looking for you right now.
