Niche Resume Writer vs. General Resume Writer

I received an email today from a reader who asked if there was a difference between a niche resume writer versus a general resume writer.  Not all resume writers are created equal, let me start there.  Any resume writer that tells you that they are experts in all fields and can write a resume for anyone is flat out fibbing.  The reality is, just like recruiters who specialize in certain niche areas, there are resume writers that focus in specific niches as well.  For example, if you have cancer, are you going to go to your primary care doctor for treatment or will you consult a specialists.  To relate this to your career, if you are a sales rep that is looking to break into medical sales, would you want a resume writer to specializes in resume writing for sales or would you like a resume writer that writes a secretaries resume in the morning and a mechanics in the afternoon and then your resume at night.

My answer to the question is, Yes.  There is a major difference between generalists and specialists.  I encourage you to do your research and be selective when choosing your resume writer.
