Dont stop your job search now

I realize that as I am writing this there are 9 days until Christmas and the last thing on your mind is your job search.  In reality, the end of the year is a great time to assess your job search strategy and adjust (if necessary) going into 2010. There are dozens of things that you can do during this time of year.

The first thing that comes to mind is to take a hard look at your resume.  This is a good idea even if you are not in job search mode.  The way companies are downsizing these days, you should always keep your resume updated.

Take some time to clear your head and reflect on your career since the last time you updated your resume to make sure it really is reflective of where you are in your career.  Do yourself a favor and think about the accomplishments and success stories and make sure that this is front and center in your resume.

After your resume is in order it is time to devise a strategy to  make sure you are getting it out in the right way.  The “right way” will differ depending on the level you are.  Job boards are great for the majority of folks but if you are a senior executive, there are much better ways to go about it.

I would suggest reaching out and networking with recruiters.  A recruiter can provide increased insight on positions that they submit you for as well as increase the chances of actually being considered for an opportunity. Many recruiters can even  help you spruce up your resume for free.  They will want to make sure your resume is impressive enough to get you an interview with their client.  Keep in mind, recruiters will not help you because they are generous, but rather because spending an hour with you on your resume could mean tens of thousands of dollars in their pocket if they place you.

I hope that I have helped you get in the right frame of mind to take action to keep your job search going.
